In Nelson’s time a yacht was described as a luxury vessel for private enjoyment – we think Corus fits the bill. She is a Ted Brewer designed Whitby cutter ketch and is named for the Greek and Roman Gods of the northwest wind. She is considered a modern classic among cruising boats: a comfortable and roomy seaworthy vessel with great stability, which makes newcomers to sailing feel confident and secure, while sailors who take the helm enjoy the thrill of a monohull as the ocean slips beneath her keel.

Along with the combination of a good boat, great sailing, wonderful scenery, and fabulous food you cannot fail to have an enjoyable time here in the British Virgin Islands.The cruising itinerary is yours to choose – do as little or as much as you wish. You are, after all, on your personal private floating hotel. Wake up when you like and enjoy a leisurely breakfast, go for a dip or a snorkel in the gorgeous blue water. Later you can bay hop and beach comb or sail, sail, sail all day.

Enjoy a champagne picnic on a sandy cove, kayak the shoreline or scuba dive one of the BVIs fascinating reefs or wrecks directly from the boat, under the guidance of Bill, your personal divemaster.

Crew Profile

We are Bill and Ann Hasted, owners of sailing yacht CORUS.

Bill is an accomplished, experienced RYA skipper. He began sailing as a child in Gallway Bay, Western Ireland and on his father’s ketch in England. He has since sailed extensively throughout Europe, the Med, Australia, the Bahamas and the Caribbean sea to the Eastern seaboard of the USA, including four Atlantic crossings logging over 50,000 sea miles. He has enjoyed an interesting and varied working life, starting as a dairy farmer in Devon, England. He then emigrated to Australia where among many things he helped to survey the virgin rainforest of Tasmania. He played a lot of rugby and cricket, became a PADI Dive Master, and has since made thousands of dives.

When he returned to England he and Ann restored a 30-room country mansion with twenty acres of gardens and transformed it into a very successful, award winning Country House Hotel and Restaurant. They have chartered in the Caribbean since 1995 and worked together in the hospitality industry for over 25 years.

Ann has been a chef most of her career working in top restaurants, private establishments and the catering industry. Ann won the Dessert section of the Culinary Competition held during the 2006 BVI Boat Show, as well as winning first place in 2004! The Dessert the judges devoured was a Gingersnap Basket with Organic Chocolate, Rippled Creme Fraiche and Roasted Pineapple!

Ann is also an experienced sailor, an RYA skipper, and has accompanied Bill on many of his sailing adventures including two Atlantic passages.

The enjoyment of gourmet food is a highlight of your charter on Corus and Ann will share her expertise and recipes with those who are interested. As a PADI Dive Master, she shares Bill’s love of scuba diving and snorkelling. She is a wine enthusiast, enjoys reading and is an accomplished needlewoman.

While Ann prepares a menu to tempt the most discerning palette, Bill will entertain you with tales of from island history, or introduce you to star gazing.

Both were good athletes in their youth and retain an interest in sport world wide. They are very interested in travel, history, anthropology and conservation issues.

To complement all this, Corus has also won “Best Yacht and Crew” in the Monohull Section during that same 2006 BVI Boat Show!!

The Rhone was indeed something to remember. Bill is a really great dive master. I learned a lot from him, and appreciated his influence on my son (who doesn’t always hear the same words from his father). Great diving, conversation, and a bit of a piped up crossing one day when it kicked up too much to dive. I would have ordered that for Santin if I had thought it possible. Ann’s cooking was a real treat. We had a great time any way you cut it. And they do a great job of making a rather small confined space feel very comfortable. Would have liked to stay longer, but budget is budget. Now my son wants to really learn sailing – and take some lessons in free diving.

A decade has gone by…
And no doubt hundreds of guests have come and gone, but I spent my 40th birthday with you all and am now 16 months from my 50th and wanted to check in with you again! I will turn 50 on 1/5/13, and my husband Erik and I want to look into booking maybe 5 nights with you all right around then.

You probably don’t remember us with all the folks you have coming and going, but my husband is a little bit more memorable..he has shaggy blond hair, is a graphic designer from CT, and I am a financial advisor from Tampa. As I recall, Erik and Bill spent a few evenings up late polishing off the Speckled Hens. He also likes to cook. We went all over the place with you guys, but my favorite was Anegada. I also remember Ann making me crispy duck the night of my birthday, and drinking French champagne under the stars in my bathing suit. I still remember her saying that if she had known it was my birthday, she would have done “something special,” which I think is funny to this day, as that was probably one of the best dinners/evenings of my life.

We’ve traveled the world since then, and stayed at some of the world’s best hotels, from China to Canada, from Siberia to Sicily (and most places in between), but I think the week with you still ranks as my best vacation ever…even without AC!

We have 3 kids now, and things have changed quite a bit, but I would like something to look forward to on my 50th…are you booked yet around those dates?

Ann and Bill,

Thank you both for making the experience possible. We knew it would be a challenge for John, but underestimated just how much of a challenge it would be. If not for your patience and willingness to help him as needed–and he needed quite a bit of help (due to his handicap)–the trip would have been impossible.

As for appreciating the food–how could anyone NOT appreciate it?!! The marvelous meals added that touch of glamour to the whole experience. (And yes, the sample menus had much to do with choosing the Corus over the other possibilities).

It’s impossible to put a price on your care and help. As John said when he gave the gratuity to Bill, it was in recognition of your going “above and beyond”. We’ll never do another sailboat cruise like this in the future–it was a lot of effort (considering John’s handicap)–but we’re both really glad to have had the experience, and we certainly wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Corus if anyone we know would like to go a’sailing.

Hello Bill and Ann,

Our vacation with you was the trip of a life time, Valentine’s Day and our seventh anniversary! Your home, the Corus is a beautiful boat and the memories we made will be with us a long time after our return. The scenery was breath taking, we’e never been so “taken care of” on any vacation ever! A luxury cruise is not even close. The diving was our favorite thing, and the snorkeling was gorgeous as well. Bill is a great dive master (also an excellent captain, waiter, server and bar tender!) I say all that first because I’m sure everyone always brags FIRST on Ann’s culinary expertise and Bill told us we were going to give you the “big head”, so we wanted to make our compliments first to the captain. We also told Ann that we would tell everyone that on this trip, Gordon, who is famous for having ice cream before dinner, refused ice cream on Virgin Gorda because he didn’t want to ruin his dinner (compliments of Ann). Believe me Ann, that’s never happened and we have eaten in some of the best restaurants on numerous trips in many different countries. It would be difficult to compare to sitting on top of the Corus, under a full gorgeous moon, while Bill graciously serves us a delicious meal with our favorite wine! We would never have imagined that a charter vacation on a sail boat could be so utterly relaxing, maybe Bill should have made us work “just a little”! Best wishes to you both, we hope to see you again someday!

Thanks for the pictures, they are great.

We had a fantastic time on the Corus and really enjoyed the boat, your company and your cooking (my mouth is still watering at the thought of that last dessert….. THE best Banofee Pie ever. BTW I must remember to get the tuna spices recipe from you so I can make it for Neima…. We’re missing being on the boat already.. The sailing, the swimming, the star lit dinners, the beaches…Neima actually shed tears when we waved goodbye to Bill on the dock.. he definitely has a Venezuelan fanclub now.

The diving idea sounds good….I’ll definitely get it before I come back to the Corus so I can do some dives with the ‘divemaster’.
