Captain and Crew of Free Ingwe, a 45 ft Leopard Caribbean Yacht Charter

Crew Profile

Captain: Austin Marshal Nationality: US – 6’3 Modern Day Buccaneer- living the dream
Chef / 1st Mate Philippa King
Austin’s self-proclaimed love of all things “in and on the water” can easily be traced back to childhood days spent on the lake near his home in Greenville South Carolina. Spending every weekend fishing, boating, wake boarding and diving perfected Austin’s summertime skills. While on a family dive vacation in the BVI Austin realized his weekend “training” on the lake could actually parlay into a dream job down the islands.
Graduating from University of Kentucky with a degree in business management, Austin went on to completed his US Coast Guard Captain training, acquired his USCG 50 Tonne License and promptly headed back to the BVI. Landing a do-it-all job with a large charter company on Tortola provided a hands on crash course in all aspects of the charter yacht business – from dock work and yacht maintenance to private and large group sailing and dive excursions, Austin had a hand in all of it. Given his easy going, well rounded personality Term Charters quickly became Austin’s area of expertise.
Austin has logged over 1500 miles in the USVI and BVI and knows the very best spots to cater to guests’ interests and activity preferences. From the best snorkel, dive and fishing sites to calm quiet bays to try out the paddle boards and kayaks, Austin has it covered. And for those looking for a little more excitement on the water Austin is happy to give wake board lessons or taking you the on the funnest tub ride ever.
Being a true buccaneer he can also deliver you to hopping beach bars for the happiest of happy hours or spin the sails and whisk you to a secluded anchorage, serve up a pitcher of perfect island drink while you relax and watch the sun slip away after another magical day on Free Ingwe.

Chef / 1st Mate Philippa King – 5”1 Irish girl with a bad case of wanderlust.

Having completed a law degree in bonny Scotland, Philippa fell off the straight and narrow and embraced her love of travel. She initially moved to Portugal and worked for a couple of seasons in a shore-based dive centre where she honed her underwater skills and found her sea legs. The next obvious step was a long passage to the warm waters of the Caribbean where she spent the next 14 months in the BVI, working as a Dive Instructor alongside six other crew on a 105 ft sailing boat. Philippa’s love of cooking was also put to well use on this large yacht where she worked alongside the head chef preparing meals for up to 27 guest each evening. Philippa has tons of experience adapting meals and menu plans to ensure delicious creative meals are suited to each guest’s dietary needs or preferences. Before joining Free Ingwe Philippa trained as a chef in Ashburton in the South of England, where she learnt to make a mean French toast.
Philippa has spent countless hours exploring the islands and knows many of the great spots to dive, snorkel, hike, drink and eat! She cannot wait to welcome you aboard Free Ingwe and share her insider tips to best of the BVI has to offer with you!!
Enjoys beer, water-sports, music, travel and a good old fashioned cheeseboard with all the trimmings. Signature drink: Irish Car Bomb.

Matt and Mel,

We didn’t know how fortunate we were when we booked this week on Free Ingwe! The boat and the BVIs are spectacular… But it’s the two of you – you personalities and skills – that made the trip so memorable and wonderful. Many, many thanks – and our very best wishes. Linda Brown

You guys are amazing! I am so happy we connected with you. There is nothing I would have changed this past week… Well, except for the Phase 10 game! Mel, your cooking was fabulous; I have never eaten like that in a one week stretch. Matt, your seamanship, knowledge of the area, and the marine life were all remarkable for us. We loved the anchorages, the drinks, and just hanging out with you guys. You really made it a wonderful vacation for us. Come see us in DC. We’ll be sure to track you down for our next charter! – Mark Brown

The Maes Charter – Salina, KS
Anticipation of a new adventure, for a novice group, is often rooted in unrealistic expectations. Matt and Mel you took our fantasy expectations to a new and unexpected level. Gourmet meals expertly prepared, timely and totally on target with our tastes.

Attention to all details of presentation, cleanliness, drinks, boat maintenance, diving and overall service. The selection of dive sites and the overall itinerary were excellent. A group is always apprehensive when selecting personnel to lead such and adventure. You both welcomed us into your world of yachting and made us friends. Thank you for your special friendship and may the wind fill your sails. – Jim and Marilyn Maes

A week of paradise – dreams do come true! Matt and Mel – you are an unbelievable couple, exceeding all expectations. Mel the meals were over the top. Your skillls are culinary chic : ) You both make your job seem effortless, which makes your guests so comfortable. Opening your home to total strangers is not easy, but you both are so gracious. Matt – what a guy! You do your job so well. I can go on and on – but bottom line – you both are the best. Thank you for a trip of a lifetime. Good luck and we wish you complete success. – Joe and Peggy
