Crew

Captain and Crew of Quest, a 57ft Alex Simonis Caribbean Yacht Charter

Crew Profile

Captain: Pat Kosick
Pat and Staci Kosick have lived and sailed in the Caribbean for many years and know the Islands as their own personal playground. They totally restored a classic Chris Craft sailing yacht, owned and operated a successful day sail business out of St Thomas for 15 years and have a large following of happy guests.

Captain Pat began in the cold weather of Wisconsin and as soon as he was old enough, he jumped on a ship joining the US Coast Guard in the Great Lakes. Once he was free he began heading south. His boating skills are exemplary and he is a well-respected captain in the Caribbean as well as being known as a true Caribbean storyteller!

Some of his accomplishments include search and rescue, teaching boat safety to law enforcement agencies, as well as inspections of small crafts. He worked on private yachts and managed charter boat companies.
He is a true Caribbean captain through and through

Together with Staci he bought land in Dominica and built a successful Eco retreat and achieved a five star rating on Trip Advisor for the past five years.

The land lubber life was not enough, they missed the boating scene, so after selling the bed and breakfast they moved back on the water in the Virgin Islands…. Showing their guests how incredible the Caribbean is.

Staci brings a lot with her as crew. She has an outstanding reputation as a chef.

Before arriving in the Caribbean, Staci traveled the world extensively, concentrating on Europe and studying their cuisine. She has a professional degree from a well know Culinary Institute in Provence, France. She loves to be creative with her meals and uses the freshest ingredients she can get her hands on! Her main goal in cooking is to use local and fresh foods as possible to turn out outstanding meals and brings the best of many countries to your table.

She is a dive master, have many years experience as both dive and snorkel guide and also a published underwater photographer working with several Virgin Island magazines.
She has had her work published in several magazines.

She loves the water and guests tease her that she is half fish!
Their philosophy is….
Follow us……we will show you the time of your life!

QUEST GUESTS COMMENTS
2011/2012 Season
June 2, 2012
“Dear Rhonda and Cam – greeting you as ‘dear’ doesn’t seem quite adequate after all you did for us the past 5 nights. When Richard and I were considering a family trip, we wanted to be together, outdoors and unplugged. You helped us accomplish that and so much more. We have the memories of an amazing trip – beautiful scenery, sailing, snorkeling, tubing, kayaking, napping, reading, EATING, playing cards… essentially being together. There’s no doubt we were put with the right crew but what you gave to us this week was more than just good service. You both showed us your servant’s heart. What an example for us to live by and to remember you by. Thank you so much for such a rich and memorable vacation.”
Very sincerely,
Holly, Richard, Dixon, Dorothy Pate, Will, Dot and Courtenay

“Thanks for a great week – the best evidence of how relaxing it was was the 2 discussions that occurred on Monday and Thursday about whether it was Monday or Tuesday then Wednesday and Thursday! The food was great, the wreck of the Rhone with Nathan was every bit as good as 30 years ago. Cam’s pina coladas were strong and your laid back approach to all our requests was greatly appreciated. The sails survived the heavy load of booze that was gradually replaced with t-shirts. Thanks again. Cheese!”
Jim, Marilyn, Alex and Maura

“We have sailed many times but never for a week straight and we all agree that this is by far the best way to see the Caribbean, as well as the most relaxing! A perfect setting for a reunion with some old family friends, AND we didn’t all kill each other, truly a miracle with 8 loud, stubborn people. Rhonda and Cam – amazing job – we enjoyed the stories and, obviously, the food! And Cam, I must say your bushwackers were the best we’ve ever had (and we are bushwacker experts) Thank you both for such a fabulous week and for putting up with all of us and our excitement over our new conch-blowing skills! Ha ha!”
Phil, Sally, Jessica and Nathan

“We are so sad our trip is over! We are so spoiled! We’ve all had such a wonderful time and hope to repeat it on your next boat. Thank you for putting up with all our craziness, Phil and Jim have such serious jobs that they need to be kids every once in a while and that brings out the kids in all of us. Thanks for not throwing us off the boat! Thank you also for making me special meals. You made every day something we can remember forever. Thank you!”
Sally, Phil, Jessica and Nathan

“Cam and Rhonda, we had such a great time! I’m just sorry we didn’t have a little more time to spend with you both to get to know you a little better. Food was awesome – company was too! Being aboard Quest again was a great pleasure! Take care and best wishes. If you are ever on St John give us a call and we can have dinner!”

“Dear Rhonda and Cam, thank you for making our “BVI” dream come true this week. These islands are magical to us and your willingness to take us to places we’ve never been made our trip completely special! Cam, you were so patient and a great guide for our diving. The Rhone was a site we’ll always remember. Thanks for the ice cold beverages and the little touches. Rum cream – Wow!
Rhonda, what can we say other than each meal was scrumptious and each pound was worth it. You’re a truly nice couple in all ways and our BVI experience will be with us always. PS – loved the slide show!”

“What a surprise to find fellow Canadians on the boat!! We had something in common right away. This has been a wonderful getaway. Cam and Rhonda, you were amazing! You thought of everything! You set the bar so high for any other sailing/diving trip. Such teamwork. Rhonda makes the most amazing and healthy meals and pilots the boat. Cam sails the boat, is dive master, rolls the cutlery, mixes the drinks and even does the dishes! What teamwork! Thank you so much for such a great holiday.
Sincerely,
Shirley and Greg, Texas

“Fantastic week!! Had a great time scuba diving and sailing and everything else. Food was amazing and so were the drinks. I would come back for the pumpkin pie! Thank you for a great vacation – might just convince me to make a change of lifestyle!”

“Rhonda and Cam, you left our family with memories that will last a lifetime. I’m not sure we could ever have a vacation that would top this one. We feel privileged to have been guests on your beautiful boat. Between Cam’s work as captain and Rhonda’s incredible cooking, we could not have asked for more. Your love and passion for sailing, cooking and friendship is an example for every charter crew. All of us are richer because of this trip.”

“Cam and Rhonda, can’t thank you enough for such an amazing trip! The sailing, the food, the sights and the weather were perfect. I can honestly say that this was without a doubt the greatest vacation I have ever been on. I will be recommending you both to any and everyone. I’m taking away some incredibly fond memories from this week that wouldn’t have been possible without the two of you. I’m not looking forward to going back to snowy Cleveland, but the photos and memories from the past 6 days are sure to keep me smiling well after my tan has faded.
Again, I can’t express my gratitude enough for your hospitality, knowledge and professionalism. I hope to be back again in the coming years, and when I do I’ll be sure to sail with you.”
Sincerely,
Christopher, Ohio

“Cam and Rhonda, Thank you so very much for a wonderful, memorable and unique vacation. You are a marvelous couple and fantastic hosts – kind, caring, considerate and hard working. We will never forget Rhonda’s gourmet meals, excellent snorkeling, napping on the trampoline, hilarious word games (Rhonda, you are a champ!) Cam’s “experimental” rum cocktails and the heroic and skillful rescue of Barry’s hat! This was the perfect venue to reconnect with our dear old friends.
Thank you for the trip of a lifetime.
Barry and Marge

“Cam and Rhonda, coming to sail for a few days with our friends was something that we looked forward to all throughout the planning stage. Like anything that’s done for the first time, one does not know what it would be like. Your expertise, efficiency, cuisine, but above all, your hospitality and care, made it for us one of the most unforgettable vacations that we have ever taken. And, even if we do not ever sail again, we know that we will always live with this most memorable time that we spent with our friends and you. But now that we have experienced a good sail, we hope our repeat sailing will be with you. Thank you.
Mammo and Makda

“Cameron and Rhonda, a truly exceptional vacation experience that tops any I’ve had in the past. Dedicated gracious hosts who attend to every need or request. Difficult to find the exceptional dining experience even in the most expensive restaurant. I will make enthusiastic recommendations to all my friends and family. A perfect vacation for friends to gather for a few days in a comfortable, relaxing setting. Vacation of a lifetime.”
Jim

“Dear Cam and Rhonda, I’m at a loss for words! This trip far exceeded our high expectations. It was great to experience Cam’s expert seamanship – hat rescue, sailing through the brief, exciting storm – seeing both of you in unison doing the anchor, sails, etc. It was easy to relax knowing that we were in expert hands. Thanks for the great fun snorkeling, going to explore the Baths, Wreck of the Rhone graveyard and Pirate Bean’s sing song!! Of course your fabulous friendliness, kindness and over the top service. The gourmet food 4x/day. “Painkillers”. Quite amazing. We’ll never have such fantastic food again. We’ll let all our friends and Facebook know about this great crew and boat. Being together with special old friends – we 7 geriatric adventurers – in this setting was awesome.
Keep on sailing good voyages.”

Broker Reviews
The following are reviews of Quest received by the charter brokers.

CHARTER REVIEW OF TEAM AND VESSEL
Name: Mrs. Simmons
Yacht: S/V Quest
Date: May 28-June 2, 2012

Comment on the comfort onboard Quest: Very comfortable. Couldn’t believe how well we slept. And that the bed was actually a queen size!

Comment on the condition of Quest: I know this was an older cat and friends suggested we request a newer one. We didn’t feel the boat was old or tired.

Comment on the cleanliness of Quest: A very important aspect to our family! Very clean, tidy and organized. There was a “catch all” for our things, so as to avoid the clutter of 7 people. It worked.

Comment on the congeniality of the Captain and crew: Lovely in every respect. Greeted us with a warm welcome, went over house rules, gave us tours of our bed and bathrooms and then allowed their home to become ours for the next 5 nights.
Comment on the service of the Captain and crew: Rhonda and Cam accommodated us with genuine servants’ hearts and not just because it was their job. Wished we could have brought them home with us!

Comment on the fun aspect of the Captain and crew: Kept us busy snorkeling, tubing and kayaking. Rhonda and Cam seemed to know when we needed quiet, down time and when we needed to activity. We had a blast!

Comment on the expertise of the Captain and crew: We never questioned that they were anything but experts in sailing and cooking. And Cam is even a skilled plumber as he fixed the leak in the water line. He did it as efficiently as possible and with a great attitude.

Comment on the quality of your meals: Rhonda completely spoiled my family. I like to cook, but rarely do we have 3 hot meals a day, dessert, appetizers AND fresh baked bread. I don’t know how she does it in the tiny galley kitchen! I use to think I needed a bigger oven at home, but Rhonda showed us all that fancy kitchen equipment isn’t a prerequisite to gourmet cooking. We definitely all gained weight.

Comment on the presentation of your meals: Perfect.

Would you charter this yacht again? (Circle one) YES , ABSOLUTELY.

Yacht: QUEST with Cameron & Rhonda
Charter Dates: February 22- 29, 2012

1. Was the crew friendly and accommodating? ?
Cam and Rhonda could not have been more focused on our comfort and enjoyment. They adjusted course and cuisine to satisfy our desires. They were friendly and professional and relaxed socially as we indicated interest in the operation of the boat and in their lives. We had lots of fun and laughs with them, yet they knew intuitively when to leave the group alone. Just the best crew we can imagine.

2. Was the yacht comfortable and clean? ?
Immaculately clean! We truly appreciated the effort that went into keeping our cabins clean and tidy, while attending to our other needs as well. I think we were as comfortable as you can be on a boat with limited space. The cabins were cozy, but the storage was ample.

3. Was the yacht well ventilated?
?We were there at the time of year when AC was not needed. The cabin hatches and windows provided lovely fresh air for sleeping.

4. Was the food good and well presented? ?
I truly don’t know how Rhonda turned out the level of cuisine she did from a 3 x 6 galley. But it was incredible! Highlights of the week were for lunch: shrimp salad, salad nicoise, juicy burgers, and fish tacos; for dinner: tuna steaks done right (i.e. rare), marinated chicken with portabello mushrooms, pork tenderloin, beef tenderloin–every night a feast for the eyes and for the stomach. And the desserts! Bananas Foster, chocolate rum pie, oh my! And when we came back from our afternoon snorkel and clean-up, there were happy hour hors de ‘ouevres and the bar was set up. Talk about “do for me.” We were “done for.”

5. Did you like the area you sailed? ?
As this was our first time in the BVI, we were very interested in seeing the area. The primary interest of our party was snorkeling, and Cam adjusted the course to find us the best snorkeling venues given the weather (we had 2 days of rough seas, which severely limited choices of moorages.)

We have had lots of wonderful vacations…but none that will leave us with the experiences and memories that this trip did. QUEST was the PERFECT boat for us, and Cameron and Rhonda exceeded our expectations each and every day. The food, the sights, the service…it was all absolutely amazing! 5 out of the 6 of us had never sailed the BVI’s … and we will ALL be back again. Thank you for all the work you did to make sure our trip was exactly what we were looking for — right down to the birthday cake for Joy’s birthday and the champagne for New Year’s Eve. There was NOTHING left that you didn’t think of — and NOTHING that we would do differently. We will be back…THANK YOU for one of the best weeks of our lives!!!!!!!

“Your gift of hospitality and generosity of spirit made this the best family vacation we have ever taken. We were relaxed the minute we stepped on Quest and you made sure we stayed that way all week. The meals and snacks were simply wonderful and made with such love and care. We truly enjoyed being with you on this experience. Thank you!
We will tell all our friends and family about you and hopefully get you more charters – but we have a feeling you guys will do just fine next season and beyond!
God bless you both and many, many thanks from the Bowers family of PA. “

“Cam: Thank you for wearing those bright yellow fins and for finding the boat always after those awesome dives. As well as taking the responsibilities in all the other avenues of this awesome trip. I loved it, thanks!
Rhonda: Your food is the best. I wish our culture had 2 meals a day instead of 3 for your sake! Everything was a pleasure. Thanks big time! Peace! See you guys!”
Lots of love, Ted Jr.

“To Sous Chef Cameron and Captain Rhonda, the Quest and all of its amenities were, needless to say, OUTSTANDING! Ted and I planned this trip to celebrate family and relationships (very eclectic). “Rhonda and Cam,
What a time! You made it even more special for us. Rhonda, you work hard! Food was fantastic. Thank you for the “pounds” you added to us. Can honestly say that no restaurant can keep up with you.

Cam – what a master! Service was perfect. More than expected. Sailing was great. This time will be frozen in our hearts and memories. We will be one of your many voices out there.

Hope you can visit us in Dallas in your travels to Canada.”

Cameron and Rhonda,
What an amazing time! Thank you for sharing your stories and time with us… Also for teaching us/allowing us to sail! It was an amazing experience.

Rhonda, the food was absolutely great – I would work with you in any kitchen, at any restaurant. Really the food was absolutely wonderful – and it was nice to have been on the reverse side (eating – and lots!) But also with the atmosphere that was provided – on the boat and around the boat – best restaurant I’ve been to in a long time (besides mine!).

Cameron, thank you for sailing and the lessons. It was wonderful to have learned and be allowed to take the helm a couple of times. The dive at Diamond Reef was great – thanks for the refresher course. All the snorkel spots were as promised and beautiful. There is not a negative thing I can say – well maybe “mosquito bay” after the quick storm, but that wasn’t anyone’s fault…ha ha ha.

The two of you have made an incredible vacation possible (best I’ve had in years!!). I will see you out here hopefully within a year – working or on board again… or both!”

Dear Cam and Rhonda,
Thank you very much for having us to stay. We all really enjoyed ourselves. The food was excellent and the sailing was great fun.
It was weird having three birthdays in 1 week but this made it even better.
We’re very sad to be leaving so soon, but time passes when you’re having fun. We hope that you have enjoyed this week as much as we did. (It may be quite hard!)
The sailing, snorkeling and being dragged around on the tube was great fun and hope that we may do it again some day.
Thank you for everything you have done for us.

“Rhonda and Cam,
A week of fun and sun,
thank goodness the generators were run!
Lots of music we played,
while the boat rocked and swayed.
Rhonda’s food was so great,
by the end of the trip we had gained weight!
The crew of the Quest
was definitely the best!
One day it may be we’ll cross paths,
it could be at Foxy’s or even the Baths!”

“Cam and Rhonda, thanks for making our week in the BVI such a memorable, wonderful experience. This was our 4th crewed yacht adventure, and it was by far the top-best! You quickly made us feel like old friends which made for a comfortable, easy-going experience all week. Your suggestions of stops and sites were spot-on. Rhonda, the food was consistently top notch, thanks.

It would be hard to pick any one part of the week as a favourite. I think that we got to re-experience all of our old favourite experiences from previous trips and discover new ones as well. The bubbly pools on Jost were great! It is a pleasure to be around people with a high standard of personal excellence, energy and attention to detail – and you guys delivered in this regard.

If you are ever in Montana, always remember there’s a bunk for you at our place.”

“As per my in-laws the Johnson’s, we, too, would like to let Cam and Rhonda know that this sailing trip was so awesome for us,too. After being in snowy, cold Bozeman, MT this Spring Break 2011 was such a relaxing vacation. This was my first trip to the AVI/BVI and I loved it! The food that Rhonda cooked up in her little kitchen was FABULOUS – such a great chef. Cam was so very accommodating and generous – such a great captain! The attention to detail and superb service that Cam and Rhonda give to their boat is so awesome. We are fortunate to have met them and hope to perhaps sail with them again.

Thank you for such a great vacation.”

“Thanks Rhonda and Cam – you are both wonderful listeners and gently guided us seafarers towards the perfect week of sailing, snorkelling, kayaking and sightseeing in the beautiful BVI’s.

We all loved and appreciated your calm and kind approach, looking after our every need. Rhonda – your cuisine was fabulous and Cam’s bartending was great – loved the painkillers!

Thanks for arranging the 4 dolphins and 2 sea turtles! The tarpon, shark (we think) and the hungry bat show was awesome too!

We’ll think of you both often as we battle the Canadian winters and wonder if the weather is still hot and the drinks still cold aboard the Quest. Happy sailing!

Words are difficult to find to describe our week on the Quest. The experience was more wonderful than any of us expected. The week started with a wonderful welcome and fantastic lunch and just got better and better. The dives were fabulous – the Rhone, Dogs, Cistern point, etc., etc. and the snorkeling was fantastic as well.

We saw everything we wanted to see and more. We got everything we wanted and the extra 10 lbs!!! You were wonderful hosts, we have never been treated so well and had so much fun.
Chef of the Quest, Rhonda’s the best!

Cam and Rhonda,
Thank you for a wonderful vacation in the BVI paradise! Rhonda, please have guests sign a responsibility waiver – I started the cruise a little fat. Now I am really fat! Fabulous meals and desserts, thank-you.

We had a great time snorkeling at Norman Island. Great times at Bitter End and the best time at the Baths on Virgin Gorda. Thanks for putting up with all of us Cam and Rhonda. You both are great fun!

I wish we went for 2 weeks!

Cam and Rhonda,
Thanks for a great week! I couldn’t have asked for a better time or a more competent crew. You both made our experience uniquely wonderful. Rhonda, wonderful cooking, amazing how you made something so different each night. Thanks for the extra 10 pounds I will bring home as a souvenir. Cam, I loved manning the sails with you. You have a hell of a lot more patience than I do. If you are ever sailing the east coast give me a shout and we can swap some sea stories over a glass of rum.

Cheers,
Peter

Cameron and Rhonda,

Thank you for the amazing week aboard Quest. We loved all the water sports – snorkeling, tubing and the kneeboard. Loved the mooring spots, especially Norman Island.

Food was awesome. The ribs were the best, worthy of Texas BBQ anytime! Kids loved the desserts and daily treats.

Thanks again and hope to see you again in 2011.

Yacht: QUEST with Cameron & Rhonda
Charter Dates: February 22- 29, 2012
Area Cruised: Virgin Islands

We hope your charter lived up to your expectations. We would love to know some of your impressions about your yachting vacation. Please answer the following questions and add any comments you may have.

1. Was the crew friendly and accommodating?
Cam and Rhonda could not have been more focused on our comfort and enjoyment. They adjusted course and cuisine to satisty our deisres. They were friendly and professional and relaxed socially as we indicated interest in the operation of the boat and in their lives. We had lots of fun and laughs with them, yet they knew intuitively when to leave the group alone. Just the best crew we can imagine.

2. Was the yacht comfortable and clean?
Immaculately clean! We truly appreciated the effort that went into keeping our cabins clean and tidy, while attending to our other needs as well. I think we were as comfortable as you can be on a boat with limited space. The cabins were cozy, but the storage was ample.

3. Was the yacht well ventilated?
We were there at the time of year when AC was not needed. The cabin hatches and windows provided lovely fresh air for sleeping.

4. Was the food good and well presented?
I truly don’t know how Rhonda turned out the level of cuisine she did from a 3 x 6 galley. But it was incredible! Highlights of the week were for lunch: shirmp salad, salad nicoise, juicy burgers, and fish tacos; for dinner: tuna steaks done right (i.e. rare), marinated chicken with portabello mushrooms, pork tenderloin, beef tenderloin–every night a feast for the eyes and for the stomach. And the desserts! Bananas Foster, chocolalte rum pie, oh my! And when we came back from our afternoon snorkel and clean-up, there were happy hour hors de ‘ouevres and the bar was set up. Talk about “do for me.” We were “done for.”

5. Did you like the area you sailed?
As this was our first time in the BVI, we were very interested in seeing the area. The primary interest of our party was snorkeling, and Cam adjusted the course to find us the best snorkeling venues given the weather (we had 2 days of rough seas, which severely limited choices of moorages.)
