Q – Will our IPOD work onboard?  Is there a TV or DVD player onboard?
A – Yes most yachts have them in all the cabins

Q -   How much is a crewed charter?
A – Charters are surprisingly affordable and depend on the size of the yacht and number of cabins.  On average from $2500 per person per week…you can also take advantage of seasonal specials.

Q – How can I check availability?

Q – Do yacht charters start on a set day?
A -   They usually start at weekends but depending on each yachts calendar other days can be booked.  Most yachts request between 24 and 48 hours turnaround between charters.  E.g. If they drop off on a Monday they are ready for pick up by either Tuesday or Wednesday.  See What is a Charter?

Q – How long is a Charter
A -   Usual length is 7 days and upwards.  Less than 5 or 6 days there is a 10% surcharge fee. Check out our specials page.  Summer Season is May 1 to Dec 14, Winter Season is Dec 15 to April 30, Festive Season is Xmas and New year either 2 separate weeks or 10 days.

Q – How do I make a booking?

Q – How do I get there?
A -   Large carriers fly into Puerto Rico, St Thomas, St Maarten and Antigua.  Then a smaller regional airline brings you to the BVI.  St Thomas has a ferry service too.  See   How to arrive

Q -   Do I need a passport to travel to the British Virgin Islands?
A – Yes all visitors (including the US) need passports and for some countries visas too.  See  How to Arrive.

Q – Should I purchase travel insurance?
A – This is highly recommended for you and your fellow passengers, whether is for unexpected trip cancellation, extreme weather or medical it is essential that you are fully covered.  See  How to Book.

Q – What extras are payable on top of charter fee?
A -   This will depend on the yacht and your booking, the usual is:

• It is customary to leave a 15-20% gratuity for your crew.
• Travel expenses to and from the yacht. (including taxi fare to the Yacht)
• Special orders of food or beverages, champagne and wines
• Excursions ashore including eating ashore at restaurants
• Insurance
• Mooring fees or marina fees (excluding meeting and leaving the yacht)

Q – Will I get seasick?
A – For guests who are prone to seasickness we strongly recommend booking a catamaran, they are surprisingly stable.  Remember to bring your medication with you.

Q – Will I have internet access?
A – All yachts have wi fi

Q – Will my US cell phone work?
A – Most cell phones do work here but as a precaution check with your provider before you arrive.

Q – Will I be able to Dive?
A – Many yachts specialise in diving vacations, otherwise we can advise or book rendezvous diving, where they can meet your yacht and take you while on charter.

Q – Will there be AC?
A – Yachts vary so let us know if this is important at the beginning so we can advise accordingly.

Q – Will I be eaten alive by Mosquito’s?
A – No. Mosquito’s don’t like wind and the BVI is blessed with constant trade winds. They also don’t like the cold and most yachts have AC as standard so you can get a good night’s sleep. However, take some insect repellent for those excursions to shore.

Q – Will I be eaten by a shark?
A – No! The BVI is blessed with an abundance of marine life, including sharks but due to strict fishing laws, there is plenty of food out in deep water and sharks have no reason to come in close to shore.

Q – Are water sports included?
A – Most yachts include snorkel gear and kayaking. Some include fishing gear and other water toys. Any extras that your boat might not include can be rented, e.g. windsurfers, kayaks, water toys etc.

Q – Can I learn to use a standup paddle board, windsurf or surf while on charter?
A – Absolutely!!  And if your yacht doesn’t have the gear onboard, Island surf and Sail, a great outlet at West End, where you can rent the boards and offer a rendezvous service for lessons.
